Find Renewal on the Trail
The Backbone Trail follows the spine of the Santa Monica Mountains for 60+ miles, stretching from the Pacific Palisades to Point Mugu. This hike is special because it traverses through a Mediterranean-type ecosystem found in only four other places on earth and home of the Chumash Indians for tens of thousands of years. Come immerse yourself in one of the most extraordinary natural environments on the planet, steps away from the luxury of The Ranch.

The Program
Each day is a point-to-point hike, where guests depart with our expert guides from one trailhead and finish at another. Transportation will meet the group at the end of each hike and bring everyone back to The Ranch. Once back on property, guests can continue enjoying the full Ranch experience, including fitness classes, massages, spa treatments, and other scheduled programming.
Guests stay on property for the duration of the program, with daily departures typically around 7:20 am, with slightly earlier departures if warmer temperatures are expected.
Daily Guided Hikes
The program is designed so that most hikes last around four hours, though shorter two-hour options are available for those who prefer a lighter pace. Because each hike travels between trailheads, finish times vary, and faster hikers may have the opportunity to add extra mileage along the way.
